At DSC we have a
wide
range of tax
experience which covers almost every aspect of your tax needs.
Corporate
Tax
Tax
compliance
Sound and timely
compliance is the bedrock of any function
within an organisation or group that is responsible for tax
matters.
Not only
does it minimise risks, but without it, meaningful tax
planning is
difficult or
impossible. We provide a full suite of tax compliance services
for
Singapore
companies.
General
tax
advisory
We
can assist
you in
relation to either ad hoc tax related
questions, or provide full-blown written technical analyses of
a
proposed
transaction, structure, or arrangement.
International
tax
Many
businesses these
days operate across borders, and
accordingly the tax issues involved can be complex. We can
assist you
in
charting these issues and help you put together a legal and
operating
structure
which minimises tax risks and maximises opportunities. More
specifically, the
areas on which we can provide assistance as follows
- Treaty
benefit analysis
- Investment
into,
through and from Singapore
- Profit
repatriation planning
- Withholding
tax
management
- Exit
strategy
Group
reorganisations
We can assist
with
business reorganisations within a
Singapore context, which may involve business or shareholder
transfers,
amalgamations, share capital reductions or liquidations
Transfer
pricing
Transfer pricing
is
rapidly becoming the hottest of the
many tax topics that require the attention of those
responsible for tax
management in a multi- national organisation. We can assist in
identifying
issues, formulating and defending transfer pricing strategy
and policy,
and
collation and maintenance of the necessary documentation.
Mergers
and
acquisitions
We
can
provide tax
support in relation to all M&A
activity, including:
- Singapore
corporate tax due diligence (buy or sell side)
- Deal
structuring (cross-border)
- Post
deal structuring and integration (cross-border)
Dispute
resolution
Whilst it is
true to say
that the
Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore are one of the most
reasonable
and
pragmatic tax authorities around, there will inevitably come a
time in
every
business’s life, that a dispute will arise over the
interpretation of
tax law.
Our
dispute
resolution
services
draw on the experience of dealing head-on with difficult tax
positions
with
HMRC in the UK, the ATO in Australia and the IRAS in
Singapore. You
will not
find better resources to help you with tactics, technical
analysis and
argumentation when these situations arise.
Tax
accounting
Accounting for
taxes can
be an
expensive and time consuming part of the preparation of any
statutory
accounts
or audit, and it is surprising how little communication there
is
between
external Tax Department and Audit team to make sure that
nothing falls
through
the cracks. Our tax accounting services provide
cradle-to-grave
preparation of
the tax numbers for statutory accounts purposes, from current
tax
computation,
through deferred tax to tax reconciliation to make sure
nothing is
missed. We
can work simply on a materiality basis for the purposes of
statutory
accounts,
or use this process as part of the preparation for the actual
income
tax
computations should you be using our services for that
purpose.
Industry
specialisms
In addition to
the
generalist tax services provided above,
we also have, inter alia, significant experience in the
following
industries:
- Fund
management real estate and infrastructure
- Shipping
and logistic
- Structured
and
asset finance
- Technology
and
IP
Tax
incentives from
strategy to application
Singapore has a
significant number of tax incentives on
offer to encourage foreign investment and innovation. We can
assist you
in
determining the most appropriate incentive that maybe
available to you,
as well
as help you with the application process.
Goods and Services
Tax
At only 7%,
Singapore’s
Goods and
services Tax rate might seem relatively innocuous by
international
standards,
however getting it wrong can nevertheless turn out to be
costly. This
stems
largely from the fact that GST is self assessed, and its
application is
devolved to the frontiers of the business where central
monitoring and
control
can prove difficult. So get it wrong once, and you get it
wrong again….
and
again. We can assist with the following:
- Preparation of monthly or quarterly GST returns
- Dispute resolution and penalty mitigation
- Filing
elections and approved GST trader programme applications (e.g. Approved
Contract manufacturer and Trader incentive; major exporter scheme etc);
- General advice and guidance on GST matters
- Targetted GST health checks to ensure controls are running smoothly and past returns have been properly prepared
- Completion of a self-review under the Assisted Self-Help Kit (ASK) programme
Personal
tax
Although
personal tax in
Singapore can be relatively
straightforward, there are complications that can arise,
particularly
in the
context of share option and other
incentive plans, benefits in kind and international transfers,
which
may
require co-ordination with other jurisdictions. We can provide
the
following
services in this area:
- Compliance
- Planning
and advice
Stamp
duty
Nowadays, Stamp
duty
affects, essentially, only Singapore
real estate and shares in private Singapore companies, however
it is
built on
archaic legislation and precedent that can throw up some
surprises.
There are
also opportunities for avoiding it in group reorganisation
situations.
We can
help you with:
-
General
planning and advice
- Stamp
duty relief applications
Training
Quality is what
being a
tax professional is all about
(whether in practice or industry). Our practical experience
and years
of
imparting the knowledge gained, on professional staff, both in
a formal
and
on-the-job setting, puts us in an excellent position to train
your
staff in any
and all aspects of taxation mentioned above.
Technical
quality is
nought however, without an ability to
communicate the advice clearly and succinctly, and this is an
area,
sadly, that
is too often overlooked. Poorly structured and expressed
technical
opinions
undermine the recipient’s confidence in those expressing them,
as well
as
increasing financial risk. We have therefore devised a course
to
address the
most common failings in a tax advisory context.
We are happy to
tailor
courses for your specific needs.
Virtual Tax director
The virtual tax
director
is aimed at businesses that need
high quality, experienced, quick turnaround, tax input, but
not on a
day-to-day
basis. The virtual tax director is there to bounce ideas off,
get
direction
from and keep your other tax advisors honest.
