David


David Sandison


Until his retirement on 30 June 2014, David was a partner in Pwc’s Singapore Tax practice and had some 30 years of tax experience, 22 of which have been in the Singapore and South East Asian tax and business environment. He spent most of his time dealing with international advisory work across a whole spectrum of industries, including energy, communications, construction, shipping, real estate, banking and insurance.

 

As a partner in the firm’s Financial Services section of Tax, he was regularly involved in helping clients structure their venture capital, private equity and real estate fund projects, and worked closely with the firm’s Mergers and Acquisitions, and Banking and Capital Markets teams in this regard. In this context he was a member of the firm’s Global Real Estate Tax Team. He has significant experience with investment structuring into countries such as India, China, Indonesia, Korea, Japan, Thailand and the Philippines. Apart from this, he also led the Tax training and technical department for the firm.

 

On the external front, David was for many years a member of ICPAS’ Taxation and Levies Committee, and latterly performed the same role for the Singapore Institute of Accredited Tax Professionals. He wrote the Singapore volume of CCH’s Tax Planning and Compliance in Asia, and authored the chapters on Hedge Funds and Private Equity Firms, and on Group relief in The Law and Practice of Singapore Income Tax. He has appeared on numerous occasions on TV and radio, written frequent articles for newspapers and technical journals, and made countless public presentations. 

 

David now runs the DSC tax consultancy practice, leveraging off his many years of experience, aimed at filling the middle-market pricing and experience gap that exists in the tax environment. 

 

A graduate of Cambridge University, David spent his formative years with PwC London, initially in audit before making a move to the tax department in 1983. He then spent two years with the firm in Melbourne, Australia before migrating to Singapore in 1991. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales as well as the Institute of of Singapore Chartered Accountants.

 

 

 


Ng Wei Pheng


Wei Pheng left PwC Singapore as a Tax Director after almost 20 years with the firm, providing tax compliance and advisory services to multinational companies and locally listed groups.

 

She has extensive experience in advising on corporate restructuring and tax planning involving transactions which cross national boundaries. She has worked on several M&A deals involving real estate investors, assisted them on due diligence reviews and tax structuring for local and overseas acquisitions, and has provided tax advice to, and assisted in, IPO projects, including the listing of REITs in Singapore.

 

Wei Pheng has helped several clients secure significant capital allowance claims on buildings through capital allowance maximisation studies for hotels, shopping malls and office blocks, and has been involved in several requests for tax rulings and represented clients in dispute resolutions before the tax authorities. She has also been involved in the negotiation of tax incentives with government agencies and tax authorities.

 

Wei Pheng was involved in co-authoring and updating several tax guides for PwC global and external publishers in respect of real estate investments. She has also presented masterclasses organised by the Asia Pacific Real Estate Association and the REIT Association of Singapore.

 

Wei Pheng has a Bachelor degree in Accountancy from the National University of Singapore and holds a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of London. She is also an Accredited Tax Adviser with the Singapore Institute of Accredited Tax Professionals.

 

 

 


Chris Loh


Chris Loh has more than ten years of tax experience six of which were spent in PwC where he was part of the financial services tax team specialising in insurance, banking and capital markets and asset management.  Chris has assisted various financial services clients in their tax compliance matters and dealing with Monetary Authority of Singapore and Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore on various tax compliance matters.  He has also assisted clients in applying for tax incentives with relevant bodies and has also provided tax advice including fund structuring, cross border transactions and the like.

 

Chris was also part of a local Small-Medium Enterprise (SME) Practice before setting up SYNOTax Pte Ltd and has assisted clients with their tax matters with a focus on SMEs from various industries including shipping, manufacturing, legal and construction.  In addition to providing regular tax compliance services, helping clients with their incentive and Advance Ruling applications, and advising on cross-border transactions, he has also been heavily involved in advising on the re-structuring of family-owned businesses.

 

Chris also has experience in assisting high net-worth individuals and expatriates with their Singapore tax returns, including applications for relevant tax incentives like the Not-Ordinarily Resident Scheme etc.

 

Chris has contributed various articles to the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants' journals and co-authored a technical guide on the Productivity and Innovation Credit Scheme entitled "Budget after Budget – A How-to Guide on the Productivity and Innovation Scheme", published by LexisNexis.

 

Chris has a Masters of Taxation qualification from UNISIM and has adjunct for the undergraduate tax course in UNISIM. He also has a double degree in accountancy and business management from the Singapore Management University. He has served two years as vice-chairperson of the YoungPprofessional Advisory Committee of the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants and is an Accredited Tax Adviser with the Singapore Institute of Accredited Tax Professionals.
